Building Area: 28,111 SF
Building Status: Completed
The previous building, described by the City Preservation Director as a “rather non-descript building,” that had undergone many renovations leaving little of its original design, as well as having limited available historic documentation.
The Miami Beach Design Preservation League and a majority of the Historic Preservation Board, were concerned about the “chipping away at the historic district,” and initially objected to the demolition of a building considered a part of the historic fabric of Lincoln Road.
The challenge was to design a building on that site that respected and honored the past but still looked forward. We designed a building that was an evolution of the original streamline modern structure, keeping the historic elements and incorporating them into the overall design.
