PROJECT: 88 La Gorce/Okto Residence

Founded in 2004, the Touzet Studio is headed by the husband and wife team of Carlos Prio-Touzet and Jacqueline Gonzalez Touzet. The firm’s architecture and interior design philosophy focuses on the details of craftsmanship in architecture. “We believe that every surface must be able to bear the weight of engagement over time, so that the. spaces, over extended periods, enrich the experience and add to the understanding of the whole,” says Carlos Prio-Touzet.

The firm’s portfolio of award-winning residential work includes the modern 16,000 square foot 88 La Goree Okto Residence in Miami Beach, Florida. Touzet’s design divides the home’s program into three distinct groupings: the main house that contains the primary public and private areas, the guest pavilion, and the service structure with servant quarters and garage. “The main house consists of a large rectangular volume intersected by numerous expressive elements that articulate particular portions of the program,” says Jacqueline Gonzalez Touzet. “The master bedroom suite is expressed within a cantilever that overlooks a strip of private beach and over 100 feet of reflecting pool. Located in a high-ceilinged wedge, the family room overhangs the front garden while the breakfast room extends beyond the main volume of the house to capture views of Indian Creek and the morning sun.” Known for their highly detailed contemporary work, Touzet Studio has received numerous awards, including the 2011 Merit Award from AIA Florida for the 88 La Gorce/Okto Residence.
