PROJECT: LINCOLN ROAD APPLE STORE

The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board has approved architect Touzet Studio’s plans for a new Apple store at 1021-2025 Lincoln Road.

The store will be built at the site of what was once an Auburn-Duesenberg-Cord auto salon designed by Russell Pancoast in the 1930s. Most of that building was destroyed or modified in the 1940s.

Apple made efforts to be flexible in the design, which deviates from their typical store. The new design is meant to evoke the glassy Lincoln Road automobile showrooms of the 1920s and 1930s, and makes extensive use of local materials such as keystone cladding.

The board overrode Miami Beach planning staff concerns that the new design did not sufficiently reflect or restore the original Pancoast design.
