Pancoast Residence, North Bay Road

The Pancoast Residence restoration project began with the client’s desire to add a studio to the historical complex, above the kitchen, which would recall a treehouse.

Originally this residence was a 1928 Moorish Revival house, designed by well-respected, Miami Beach architect, Russell T. Pancoast at an experimental phase in his career exploring architectural designs from Spain’s Moorish tradition. Careful and involved studies into the historical architecture of the house were crucial to a successful restoration; this research involved studying historic photographs alongside the existing architecture to remain faithful to Pancoast’s work on tropical architecture in South Florida.

Careful attention was also paid regarding the modernization of the property, integrating virtually invisible technology while maintaining the historic characteristics of the residence. Architectural professionals and craftsmen were commissioned to apply their knowledge and expertise on the restoration of the house as well as on the new addition. One by one, the pieces came together, creating a mosaic of historically authentic architecture paired with modern comforts and accessibility.
