Ransom Everglades Campus SAP
Brought in as the project’s local architect, the goal was to ensure the design from the planners, Bowie Gridley, fit into the rich history and legacy of the historic Ransom Everglades School campus. Undertaking historical research into the site, we developed a palette and character booklet for the property that maintains the existing stylistic influences of Mediterranean Revival common to the Coconut Grove neighborhood.
Paul Ransom, the founder of the school, believed in the importance of connecting with nature and the characteristics of the campus reflect this. The plan for the campus was to carry on the series of open courtyards linking academic buildings together to the newly acquired property, providing an outdoor environment that is not merely for socialization but also an education space itself. The preservation of the mature oak, mahogany, and gumbo limbo trees on the campus was crucial to planning efforts and ensured natural shading.
As part of the team for the master plan of the campus, we assisted with the development and submission of the Special Area Plan (SAP) to the City of Miami. Being local provided the advantage of creating a site BIM Model and site sections as well as the historical research report. The photography and compilation of these documents established the architectural fundamentals of the Ransom campus, which serve as guidelines for future developments on the property.
