Coral Gables Residence
Inspiration for the Coral Gables Residence was taken from the tropical hammock of Coral Gables as well as the beautiful natural landscape of Biscayne Bay. The house transitions from two engaged, stone-clad volumes on the street to a primarily crystalline facade on the bay side. The interiors balance a warm, neutral palette with moments of intense color, using terrazzo floors and natural wood to give the residence a very tropical Florida feeling.
The blues and greys of the carpets and custom light fixtures reflect the shades of the neighboring ocean, while bright bursts of color recall the vibrant tones of tropical garden landscapes. The furniture layout takes advantage of the crystalline facade and beautiful bay views, while also meeting the client’s programmatic needs for a comfortable family space where they can enjoy the water and watch TV.
Miami’s design language is rooted in our sunny but challenging climate, and somewhat wild nature. It is lighter, brighter, and freer. When desired, it can immerse us in nature while still having protective boundaries from the sun, heat, and storms when needed.
At the heart of our practice is listening: listening to the unique dreams and passions of our clients and weaving their visions into the vibrant tapestry of our dynamic city. The client envisioned a home that was thoroughly modern yet grounded in historical architectural precedents; like many of our projects, 101 Hibiscus was crafted to respect past design traditions while capturing aspirations for the future.
