Designing to Attract
Touzet Studio, Miami, has designed a new commercial building in the Miami Design District that will serve as a gateway to the neighborhood. The client is a boutique real estate brokerage firm. While the street where the building is sited is a study in contrasts, this building will be dark and rounded at street level to visually contrast with the sleekness of the rectilinear shape of its upper floors. The building's materiality is made interesting through the use of architectural concrete, embossed metal and glass. A paved urban courtyard leads to a rooftop garden that offers views of downtown Miami and the Atlantic Ocean. The building's commercial use contrasts with the floating bar façade at the top of the structure that was designed to serve as a three-dimensional canvas for projecting digital art installations. The massing was deliberately kept simple so that the floating bar façade could take on different personalities, playing with simple concrete and light and not relying on complicated metal skins or glass.
